ROUTE 66 Maps, the next generation mapping and navigation solution with hybrid map technology

Zurich-Switzerland, November 25, 2009 - ROUTE 66 today announces the launch of ROUTE 66 Maps, the next generation mapping and navigation solution for S60 and Windows Mobile devices. Featuring innovative hybrid map technology, enhanced car and pedestrian navigation, as well as a wide range of extra geographic content and location based services, including traffic information, safety camera locations, 3D buildings and 3D landmarks, ROUTE 66 Maps provides users with an unmatched navigation experience on their mobile device.

Hybrid map technology

ROUTE 66 Maps features accurate and detailed geographic maps which reflect the latest changes in road networks and points-of-interest. This allows users to search for locations and to plan and simulate multi-waypoint routes on their mobile devices. In addition, satellite imagery and 3D buildings and 3D landmarks guarantee a more realistic and better orientation in urban areas. Moreover, ROUTE 66 Maps combines the advantages of online and offline map data by using hybrid map technology. When operated in online mode, ROUTE 66 Maps accesses the most up-to-date map data directly from the ROUTE 66 map server. In offline mode, however, the application only accesses map data that was previously stored on the mobile device to avoid data transfer costs charged by the network operator.

Enhanced in-car and pedestrian navigation

With leading-edge car and pedestrian navigation, featuring fast route planning, clear turn-by-turn instructions and automatic re-routing, users of ROUTE 66 Maps can confidently explore the world both by car and on foot. Drivers can now even rely on accurate lane information for an optimised driving experience through complex junctions and motorway exits. Speed warnings, safety camera warnings and real-time traffic information help users to avoid speed tickets and to circumvent traffic jams. In addition, pedestrian navigation now also provides guidance through parks and small streets and is available in more cities around the world than ever before.

Free ROUTE 66 Sync desktop application now also features route planner

The ROUTE 66 Maps mobile application comes standard with a free desktop application, ROUTE 66 Sync. Besides content management for mobile devices, as well as easy access to extra geographic content and location based services in the ROUTE 66 Store, the new ROUTE 66 Sync desktop application now also contains an outstanding route planner. This new feature offers users the possibility to browse worldwide maps, save favourite locations and plan routes on their desktop, and then to transfer their favourite locations and routes to their mobile devices.

"ROUTE 66 Maps was designed with the sole purpose of providing users with an unmatched car and pedestrian navigation experience on their mobile device. With ROUTE 66 Maps we have clearly reached our goal," stated Job van Dijk, ROUTE 66 Chief Operating Officer. "We have also further expanded the functionality of ROUTE 66 Sync, our free desktop application, with a route planner so that from now on users can prepare all their trips comfortably at home before hitting the road."
